Providing Opportunities

Lafourche Arc provides vocational services through a variety of program types including Day Habilitation, Center-based Work Skills Training, Community-based Work Skills Training and Supported Employment at each of three separate locations known as Grenier Industries, Signs R Us and The Plaisance Center.

The Day Habilitation Program

Provides an opportunity for individuals to strive toward greater independence in all areas of daily living while being supported by trained professionals. This program is designed to assist the individual in their basic needs and guide them toward the acquisition of greater skills in socialization, motor development, communication, comprehension, physical ability and any other areas the individual would like to enhance.

Center Based Work Skills Training

An opportunity for individuals to learn the skills of a particular type of job and be paid according to their level of productivity. The types of jobs currently offered include: Janitorial Services, Vending Machine Services, Mardi Gras Bead Recycling, Cardboard Recycling, Flatware Packaging (Picnic Packs), Wood Cutting (Saw Shop), Vehicle Cleaning & Maintenance, Sign Manufacturing, Document Shredding and Retail Store Sorting & Stocking.

Community Based Work Skills Training

An opportunity for individuals to learn the skills of a particular type of job and be paid according to their level of productivity at various locations in the community. The types of jobs currently offered in community-based training include: Janitorial Services, Vending Machine Services, Cardboard Recycling, Wood Product Delivery, Misc. Buying, Vehicle Cleaning & Maintenance and Retail Store Merchandise Pick-up.

Supported Employment

Supported Employment Services are offered to individuals who are ready to enter the traditional work force, also known as competitive employment. In Supported Employment individuals are assisted by our staff in determining the type of job they are interested in pursuing, completing employment applications and assisting in interviews. Once a job is attained the individual will receive one-to-one training in the performance of the job tasks by a Job Coach at the employer’s site. After the individual has demonstrated the ability to carry out the job duties independently to the satisfaction of the employer, the Job Coach will begin to fade out by spending less time with the individual at the site. After a successful fade-out period the individual will receive follow along services where a Job Coach will continue to check with the individual and the employer on a routine basis to ensure everything is going well. Currently several individuals are placed in competitive supported employment jobs in the community. These jobs include: janitorial work, restaurant meal preparation, restaurant table bussing, general labor, warehouse worker, grocery stocker, etc.

All these program types are offered at all three vocational locations.
